{"id":1868,"date":"2012-04-07T00:16:17","date_gmt":"2012-04-07T05:16:17","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/?p=1868"},"modified":"2012-04-08T09:52:44","modified_gmt":"2012-04-08T14:52:44","slug":"felipes-taqueria-in-new-orleans","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/general\/felipes-taqueria-in-new-orleans\/","title":{"rendered":"Felipe&#8217;s Taqueria in New Orleans"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>By Todd Barron @ FoodieCuisine.com<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_1937\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/felipes_nachos.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-1937\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-1937\" title=\"felipes_nachos\" src=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/felipes_nachos-300x179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/felipes_nachos-300x179.jpg 300w, http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/04\/felipes_nachos.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-1937\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Chicken Nachos<\/p><\/div>\n<p>When in the French Quarter in New Orleans the first thing that comes to mind is not Mexican food.\u00a0 In fact, the thought of it brings images of vats of grease to mind.\u00a0 The French Quarter is \u201cdirty\u201d and most restaurants in the immediate area suffer as a result.\u00a0 There are a few stand-outs but for the most part, Mexican food is something I would avoid.<\/p>\n<p>My wife and I are leaving the Aquarium after\u00a0 a pleasant visit there and my trusty Zagat application tells me there is a highly rated Mexican restaurant a block away.\u00a0 Really?\u00a0 Well, Zagat has been batting a thousand so far so why not?\u00a0 We head down the street to Felipes Taqueria.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s clean on the inside.\u00a0 That\u2019s the first thing I notice.\u00a0 I also notice the large sign on the wall telling me what I can pick from.\u00a0 Felipe\u2019s is not a fancy restaurant where you sit down and order.\u00a0 Far from it.\u00a0 You choose your items from the board, tacos, burritos, etc, and then choose your protein such as chicken, fish, or beef.\u00a0 It reminds me of an upper scale Chipotles.<\/p>\n<p>I order the fish tacos and my wife orders the chicken nachos.\u00a0 We walk through the line picking out the toppings such as sour cream, cheese, tomatoes, etc.\u00a0and pay for our food.\u00a0 I find us a nice table in the corner, before the crowd shows up, and dig in.<\/p>\n<p>The tacos are very fresh, with a lightly fried fish for the meat.\u00a0 The lettuce is nicely shredded and everything has\u00a0a great flavor to it, especially after I add the house-made chipotle salsa.\u00a0 My wife\u2019s nachos have heapings of shredded chicken on top and taste great.\u00a0 One thing I notice while we are eating are the several locals who show up for lunch.\u00a0 There are firemen, policemen, nurses, electricians, and various other workers from around the area eating at Felipes.\u00a0 The food and the clientele all point to one thing: a great local restaurant with reasonable prices.\u00a0 I will be back.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/57\/1422120\/restaurant\/French-Quarter\/Felipes-Taqueria-New-Orleans\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"border: none;
