{"id":686,"date":"2010-08-25T13:46:03","date_gmt":"2010-08-25T18:46:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/?p=686"},"modified":"2010-09-07T08:34:31","modified_gmt":"2010-09-07T13:34:31","slug":"boudreauxs-cajun-apptizers-in-maumelle","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/general\/boudreauxs-cajun-apptizers-in-maumelle\/","title":{"rendered":"Boudreaux&#8217;s &#8211; Cajun Food in Maumelle"},"content":{"rendered":"<h4>by Todd Barron @ FoodieCuisine.com<\/h4>\n<div id=\"attachment_689\" style=\"width: 234px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux_logo.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-689\" class=\"size-full wp-image-689\" title=\"boudreaux_logo\" src=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux_logo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"224\" height=\"95\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-689\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Boudreaux&#39;s Logo<\/p><\/div>\n<p><em>Updated 9-7-2010<\/em><\/p>\n<p>The restaurant <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boudreauxsgrillandbar.com\/index.html\">Boudreaux\u2019s Bar and Grill<\/a>is a Cajun themed bar and grill located on the outskirts of Maumelle and took over the old location of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pastajacks.com\/index.html\">Pasta Jack\u2019s<\/a>.\u00a0 If you never went there before, Pasta Jack\u2019s was probably the worst Italian restaurant I\u2019ve ever been to.\u00a0 It was more than bland and as a further insult, it was expensive.<\/p>\n<p>Given the super short amount of time between Pasta Jack\u2019s closing and Boudreaux\u2019s opening, I thought the two were owned by the same person and have not visited it due to this.\u00a0 Time has passed now and while I still don\u2019t know if it\u2019s the same owner, I have heard good things about the food there and decided to give it a cursory try a couple of weekends ago.<\/p>\n<p>Boudreaux\u2019s describes itself as <em>\u201cBoudreaux\u2019s Grill and Bar is a place for everyone, whether it be watching the game, having a beer,\u00a0a family dining experience, or all of it. Great bar for just stopping in or plenty of tables if you want to stay. Good food, good drinks, good friends\u2026 Boudreaux\u2019s is da place to be.\u201d\u00a0 <\/em>The restaurant is located in a strip mall off of Maumelle Boulevard and is close to Subway Sandwiches and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/200\/1034903\/restaurant\/Senor-Tequila-Little-Rock\">Senor Tequilas<\/a>.\u00a0 They have an easy to see red neon sign outside and are much bigger inside than they appear.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_692\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-692\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-692\" title=\"White Queso with Chips\" src=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux2-300x179.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"179\" srcset=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux2-300x179.jpg 300w, http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux2.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-692\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">White Queso with Chips<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The place is clean and has plenty of room to sit and watch football or just hang out to eat (or drink.)\u00a0 Every Friday I have what are called \u201cCheese dip Fridays\u201d in which I like to go after work to eat cheese dip and relax (and no, I haven\u2019t gained a pound doing this!)\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>A couple of weeks ago I decided to give Boudreaux\u2019s a try to see if they could become my new standard for a good cheese dip.\u00a0 The friendly waitress took our order I\u00a0opted for\u00a0the <strong>Jalapeno Poppers<\/strong> ($6.95) and the <strong>White Queso Cheese Dip with Chips<\/strong>\u00a0($6.95).\u00a0 Saying queso next to cheese dip is a bit redundant since queso means \u201ccheese\u201d but we can forgive such minor lingual transgressions right? \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n<p>The cheese dip came out right away and is the first thing we tried (a friend had joined me for the experiment.)\u00a0 The chips were a tad stale and appeared to have been re-fried.\u00a0 This is\u00a0a typical tactic by restaurants to \u201crefresh\u201d chips as they will dump them into the deep fryer for\u00a0a second to take the staleness out of them.\u00a0 If they did not do this, they were very greasy for chips.\u00a0 The cheese dip looked good with pieces of pepper or other seasonings in it.\u00a0 It also tasted great as far as flavor is concerned.\u00a0 This is where the major flaw comes into play though.\u00a0 The cheese dip had the consistency of a somewhat thickened water.\u00a0 It was so thin that I had a hard time tasting it since it would slide off of my chip before I could consume it.\u00a0 Oh how I wish it would have been thick considering it tasted good.\u00a0 But alas, it is not to be and therefore I do not recommend ordering it, ever.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_691\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><a href=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-691\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-691\" title=\"Jalapeno Poppers\" src=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux1-300x232.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"232\" srcset=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux1-300x232.jpg 300w, http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux1.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-691\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Jalapeno Poppers<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The biggest surprise was found with the Jalapeno Poppers.\u00a0 They are a decent size and were breaded in a panko style batter.\u00a0 They were not overly fried which surprised me and had a great flavor.\u00a0 I liked the ranch dipping sauce they were served with and the whole basket of peppers was gone in a short period of time.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I really liked the appetizer.\u00a0 I know, it\u2019s nothing special to put cheese in jalapenos, bread them, and fry them, but these were some of the best I\u2019ve ever had.\u00a0 If it wasn\u2019t for the bad cheese dip, I would come back again to order the poppers.\u00a0 If they fix the cheese dip I may give them another chance, but until I hear otherwise I can\u2019t recommend going to Boudreaux\u2019s for appetizers.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>I went back to Boudreaux\u2019s this last weekend to give an entree a try and ordered the <strong>Shrimp Po Boy<\/strong> ($8.50).\u00a0 I was going to order the Oyster Po Boy but upon inquiry found out that they do not bread the oysters themselves.\u00a0 There isn\u2019t much you can do to custom fry a Sysco or Ben E. Keith oyster so I opted for the Shrimp Po Boy instead.\u00a0 My wife order the large bowl of <strong>Cajun Jambalaya<\/strong> ($9.95.)<\/p>\n<p>The Jambalaya had a good flavor to it with plenty of bits of sausage and chicken throughout.\u00a0 It could have used a little more sauce as it was dry but it was very close to perfect as far as technique is concerned.\u00a0 Overall it is something I would probably order again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_711\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><a href=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux_hoagie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-711\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-711\" title=\"boudreaux_hoagie\" src=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux_hoagie-300x198.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux_hoagie-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/foodiecuisine.com\/wordpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/08\/boudreaux_hoagie.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><p id=\"caption-attachment-711\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Shrimp Po Boy<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The Shrimp Po Boy had three shrimp on it and the jalapeno mayo was almost nowhere to be found.\u00a0 I was looking forward to the jalapeno mayo but found no more than a few drops of it on my sandwich.\u00a0 I also ordered the sandwich without tomatoes or onions but they brought it with no lettuce, tomatoes, and put plenty of onions on it.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The shrimp were of a decent size but tasted greasy and were tough to bite through.\u00a0 I had a hard time taking a single bite as each attempt resulted in a whole shrimp being consumed.\u00a0 The bread was not homemade but was springy enough to hold up to the sandwich.\u00a0 The cajun fries that came with the sandwich had a nice flavor to them and were fried well.<\/p>\n<p>If it were up to me I would have included more jalapeno mayo, lightly toasted the bread, fried the shrimp at a higher temp for less time, and put the right condiments on the sandwich.\u00a0 Although I liked the Jambalaya, I won\u2019t be ordering the Shrimp Po Boy again.<\/p>\n<p>For dessert we had the <strong>Louisiana Bread Pudding<\/strong> ($4.99) that comes with a rum sauce.\u00a0 They brought up a corner piece of bread pudding covered in rum sauce and with a\u00a0dollop of whipped cream on top.\u00a0 It was quite warm and had a very nice crunch to it from the sugar crust.\u00a0 The rum sauce had a great flavor as did the bread pudding with plenty of raisins throughout.\u00a0 Overall I was very happy with the dessert and can see myself visiting Boudreaux\u2019s on the weekend for a takeout order of bread pudding.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>Boudreaux\u2019s Bar and Grill<br \/>\n<\/strong>9811 Maumelle Boulevard, N Little Rock, AR<br \/>\nMon-Thur<br \/>\n4pm \u2013 10pm<br \/>\nFri-Sat<br \/>\n11am \u2013 10:30pm<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.urbanspoon.com\/r\/200\/1491057\/restaurant\/Little-Rock\/N-Little-Rock\/Boudreauxs-Grill-Bar-Maumelle\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 200px;
